Aviation Psychology
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) maintains rigorous standards to ensure the safety of the National Airspace System. As an FAA-Approved Psychologist who is HIMS-trained and FAA-Certified, I provide the specialized psychological evaluations required to determine an airman’s psychological fitness for flight.
The primary goal of these evaluations is to identify potential risks to the aviator, their passengers, and the public. Whether you are an aspiring pilot or a veteran captain, I provide the objective data needed to navigate the medical certification process.
When is an FAA Evaluation Required?
The FAA often mandates a psychological evaluation* to obtain or renew a medical certificate in the following instances:
- Disqualifying Conditions: Evaluations may be necessary for disqualifying conditions (e.g.,ADHD) or to clarify current functioning in light of past psychiatric history.
- Substance Use History: Evaluations related to alcohol or drug-related incidents (DUI/DWI) or long-term recovery monitoring.
- HIMS Program Participation: Providing the necessary psychological components for pilots enrolled in the Human Intervention Motivation Study (HIMS).
*I do not provide neuropsychological or psychiatric evaluations. Please confirm that you require a “psychological evaluation” from the FAA prior to contacting me.
Pilot Mental Health Consultation
Beyond formal evaluations, I provide specialized consultation services for pilots. Mental health in the cockpit is a complex issue; I help airmen understand the psychological requirements of their profession and provide guidance on maintaining mental wellness without compromising their career longevity.
If you are a pilot and require an evaluation, please call me or use the form below.
